Research Project 2000
Manual
NAPAA commissioned an
extensive four-part research project in late 1999 that included:
-
A mailed survey to approximately 5,000
companies who offer promotional allowances programs in a wide range of
industries, to obtain data on salaries, program structure, expenditures by
media, size of budgets, implementation strategies, measurement practices,
distribution channel approaches, use of the Internet, and perennial problems
and solutions. Data was gathered on subjects like projected increase or
decrease in allowance programs.
-
Telephone interviews with the six largest
manufacturing companies in 20+ industries, to determine how they negotiate MDF
with their customers, how they customized programs, trends they foresee, best
practices, and case histories. Data was gathered on subjects like the
percent of companies making MDF vs. traditional co-op payments:
-
A customized profile of 22 leading retail
categories today, providing a quick study of trends, key accounts, consumer
appeal, and support requirements.
-
An analysis of manufacturers' published
promotional allowance program structural "norms" for approximately 50
categories of business. This includes average accruals ithin industries,
percent of reimbursement, and variants from norms to meet the unique needs of
their industries.
The results of this extensive analysis of
our industry are available in the form of a 125-page reference
manual that was provided at no charge to TPMA members as one of the benefits
of membership in the Association. Additional copies are available to
members for $500 each. Non-members may purchase copies for $1,000
each.
A 53-page 2001
Supplement is now available. It has been shipped at no
charge to TPMA members and is available to non-members for $500.
